Maria Ho

On Monday night, PokerGO aired the latest episode of “Poker After Dark” Season 13, which was Part 2 of “Feeding Franzi.”

The seven-handed game, which was a continuation of last week’s episode, was $50/$100 no-limit hold’em with a $100 big blind ante. The minimum buy-in was $10,000 with no max.

Nick Wright, the host of FS1’s “First Things First”, recently lost his High Stakes Duel III match to Phil Hellmuth, but returned here for his PAD debut. He was joined by Eli Elezra, Maria Ho, poker couple Joelle Parenteau and Daniel Weinand, Hish Salama, and the man for which the episode was named Zach Franzi.

If you recall from our last recap, Franzi was on a bit of a heater while both Elezra and Wright were struggling to get anything going.

Here’s a look at the stack sizes shortly into the episode:

Player Counts
Nick Franzi $56,675
Eli Elezra $30,600
Hish Salama $26,375
Nick Wright $19,100
Maria Ho $18,625
Daniel Weinand $15,200
Joelle Parenteau $3,875

Below is a look at five of either the biggest or most interesting hands from this week’s episode.

Get to Know Joelle Parenteau

Joelle Parenteau
Joelle Parenteau

After Elezra raised to $300 with the {k-Spades}{q-Hearts} and Wright called with the {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, the short-stacked Parenteau looked down at the {a-Spades}{a-Hearts} in the small blind and three-bet to $1,200. Both Elezra and Wright call and it was three-way action to a flop of {4-Clubs}{5-Spades}{j-Diamonds}.

Parenteau was first to act and opted to bet all in for her last $2,675, which inspired a quick fold from Elezra. Wright double-checked his cards and then followed suit. With that, Parenteau claimed the $6,475 pot.

For those that aren’t familiar with Parenteau, she is a poker player and restaurant owner who operates “Wolf Down” locations in Ottawa and Las Vegas. She is also engaged to Daniel Weinand, who was also in the game.

Ho Shows the Bullets

Ho raised to $300 with the {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and was called by Wright’s {q-Spades}{10-Clubs} and Parenteau’s {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Weinand then three-bet to $1,600 from the small blind with the {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}, Ho four-bet to $4,000, and both Wright and Parenteau got out of the way.

Weinand didn’t take too long before ditching his ace-queen and giving the $6,400 pot to Ho.

“Show it, show it one time,” Salama encouraged. Ho obliged and tabled here pocket rockets.

Maria Ho

More Rockets for Maria

Weinand raised to $300 from the hijack with the {a-Spades}{7-Clubs} and Elezra called next to act holding the {j-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. Ho then looked down at the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} on the button and three-bet to $1,200. Franzi came along from the big blind with the {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}, Weinand folded, and Elezra called to make it three-way action to a flop of {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{9-Clubs}.

Two checks saw Ho continue for $1,600, Franzi called with his pair, and Elezra opted to do the same with his gutshot straight draw. The {q-Clubs} turn saw Franzi check for the second time and Elezra, who improved to an open-ended straight draw, checked as well.

Ho kept the pressure on with a bet of $5,500, which left her $9,500 behind. That was enough to get both Franzi and Elezra to fold, giving Ho the $14,350 pot.

Wright vs. Weinand

Daniel Weinand
Daniel Weinand

Wright looked down at the {q-Spades}{q-Hearts} and raised to $400, which Weinand called from the button with the {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}. The rest of the players folded and it was heads-up action to the {6-Clubs}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop.

Wright continued for $700 and Weinand raised to $2,300 with bottom pair. Wright called and the dealer burned and turned the {10-Hearts}. Wright checked, Weinanrd did the same, and the {7-Spades} double paired the board on the river.

Wright paused for a few beats before betting $1,200, but Weinand didn’t pay it off. He folded and Wright won the $6,850 pot.

Weinand Sets Up Elezra

Daniel Weinand vs, Eli Elezra
Daniel Weinand vs, Eli Elezra

After Ho straddled to $200, action folded to Weinand who made it $700 to go holding the {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} in the small blind. Elezra called from the big with the {a-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}, Ho put in an additional $500 with the {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}, and the trio saw a flop of {8-Spades}{5-Clubs}{a-Hearts}.

Weinand, who flopped a set, led out for $800 and Elezra immediately raised him to $1,700 with top pair. Ho got out of the way and Weinand just called to see the {9-Hearts} turn.

Weinand coyly checked and Elezra didn’t fall for it as he checked back. Unfortunately for him, the {a-Diamonds} spiked on the river to give him trips while Weinand filled up.

Weinand came out with a bet of $5,000, which was almost the size of the pot. Elezra thought long and hard before laying it down. Weinand, who claimed the $10,600 pot, then showed Elezra that he had the goods.

Here’s how the stacks sat at the end of the episode:

Player Prize
Zach Franzi $54,950
Hish Salama $28,075
Maria Ho $21,075
Nick Wright $20,450
Eli Elezra $20,425
Daniel Weinand $16,650
Joelle Parenteau $8,825

Kristen Bicknell, Partypoker Part Ways: ‘It’s Been a Great Four Years’

Kristen Bicknell

In a surprising move, Kristen Bicknell is leaving partypoker as an ambassador, the poker site she’s represented the past four years.

The Canadian poker star announced the decision on Twitter but didn’t give details on why she’s moving on.

Bicknell praised her now former employer, stating that it’s “been a great 4 years” working with partypoker. She continued by saying that despite stepping away from her ambassadorship role with a specific poker site, she will continue to “serve as a model for other women to play this great game.”

Bicknell, who recently got engaged to long-time boyfriend and fellow poker pro Alex Foxen, will certainly have many sponsorship opportunities should she choose to go down that route.

Impressive Poker Career

The split appears to be mutual as both sides praised each other on Twitter. The partypoker social media staff sent out a thank you to the poker pro who worked hard to represent the site for four years.

“A big thank you from everyone at partypoker for your contribution over the last few years as a partypoker Ambassador. We wish you all the best for the future!” a tweet from @partypoker read.

Bicknell is now a free-agent in the poker sponsorship game, although she hasn’t publicly said she’ll seek out a new poker site to represent in the future. If another site signs her, they’ll be getting the three-time defending Global Poker Index Female Player of the Year recipient and a three-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner. The former partypoker ambassador has over $5 million in live tournament cashes, and many consider her to be the best female poker player in the world today, and possibly ever.

Last summer, she earned that third bracelet by winning GGPoker’s Online Bracelet Series Event #44, $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em 6-Handed, beating out 892 entrants for $356,412. Her first two titles came in live events at the WSOP in Las Vegas.

2021 WSOP: Former Champ Chris Moneymaker Set to Miss This Year’s WSOP

Chris Moneymaker 2021 WSOP

The 2003 WSOP Main Event champion Chris Moneymaker has announced that he will not be attending the 2021 World Series of Poker.

In a tweet, the Poker Hall of Famer stated as one of his reasons that he did not want to bring the virus home, with his nine-year-old child unable to be vaccinated.

Many poker players and fans were quick to commiserate, including three-time WSOP bracelet winner David Bach.

Moneymaker Explains All

Pokernews reached out to the former Main Event champion to ask him about how he came to his decision, one that he admits he hated to make.

“I decided to skip the WSOP Main Event when I learned that even vaccinated people could shed the virus,” said Moneymaker. “If I go to the WSOP I will most certainly be exposed to the virus.”

Moneymaker cashed twice at the 2019 World Series of Poker, including a 687th place finish in the Main Event – the first time Moneymaker had cashed in the Main Event since his 2003 win.

“I was looking forward to live poker in general,” said Moneymaker. “Before the Delta variant, I started to play live locally again and added some stops live to my schedule. That is all gone for the foreseeable future.”

Masks and Vaccines

“If you are not vaccinated […] I cannot handle that kind of stupidity”

We asked Moneymaker whether he had anything to say to those who were hesitant to wear masks or were reluctant to get vaccinated against the virus. Moneymaker did not mince his words.

“If you are not vaccinated or don’t wear a mask at this point, there is nothing I can say to you. I will probably just not speak to you anymore as I can not handle that kind of stupidity.”

Moneymaker has since said that he would love to see the World Series of Poker go forward, and that he would love to play in it. In fact, he finished his tweet with the hashtag #nextyearihope.

However, while the rest of the poker community hopes to write their name into poker folklore, this is just one name they will have to go without for 2021 at least.

Harrah’s New Orleans First Casino to Require Vaccine or Negative COVID-19 Test

harrahs new orleans casino

The city of New Orleans isn’t messing around with the pandemic. Starting August 16, patrons at most New Orleans businesses, including casinos, will be required to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination or a negative test result.

Harrah’s New Orleans, a frequent WSOP Circuit stop, will become the first casino in the U.S. to require guests to prove they are vaccinated or have a recent COVID-19 test result. Many locals aren’t too thrilled with the mandate, and some have voiced their displeasure on social media.

Even fans attending New Orleans Saints NFL games in the fall will be subjected to the new mandate. And some of even the most loyal Saints fans appear to be a bit disturbed by the news.

“Pay $100 per ticket plus concessions to watch in person in a mask or watch free at home? This is a tough one. Enjoy the Ls on attendance and concessions,” @dadbodXL tweeted.

“Yall about to be forced to take a massive L on attendance and people wanting refunds on their tickets. Not to mention any other profits you get from the dome ie concessions,” @Darb04 informed the football team.

Further Impact on Poker in the U.S.

Harrah’s New Orleans, a Caesars Entertainment property, has 20 card tables in the main poker room and is a favorite stop among tournament and cash game grinders in the area. But some of those players might be turned off by the city mandate and instead head to a casino outside of New Orleans or nearby.

With that said, Harrah’s New Orleans likely won’t be the only casino required to deny admission for non-vaccinated guests. The city of Los Angeles is considering implementing a similar policy, which means card rooms such as Commerce Casino and The Bicycle Club could soon be forced to do the same. And with businesses — restaurants, bars, retail stores — around the country contemplating similar requirements, poker players should prepare for the inevitable, at least in certain cities and states.

As for the WSOP, which begins September 30 in Las Vegas, vaccines aren’t required, for now. But those who aren’t fully vaccinated against the coronavirus and are determined to have been in close contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19 could be disqualified from a tournament.

Friday the 13th: Horrible Luck Costs Drinan in 2014 WSOP $1M Big One for One Drop

Info seputar HK Hari Ini 2020 – 2021.

Connor Drinan 2014 WSOP

It’s Friday the 13th, a day that keeps the most superstitious poker players away from a card game. Connor Drinan may have wished he avoided the $1 million buy-in WSOP Big One for One Drop in 2014, especially after he suffered one of the most memorable bad beats in televised poker history.

In 2014, the WSOP brought back the historic charity event, and 42 players ponied up enough money to buy a mini mansion just to enter a poker tournament. Two years earlier, Antonio Esfandiari won the inaugural Big One for One Drop, which helped raise money for Guy Laliberte’s One Drop Foundation, for $18,346,673, a single-event poker record at the time.

Drinan, who was just 25 in July 2014, came up with $1 million to enter the second edition of the Big One for One Drop. He and 41 others — some pros, some wealthy recreational players — were after the $15,306,668 first place prize. But today is Friday the 13th. We wouldn’t be telling you a story about good fortune on a day like this. Instead, in true Friday the 13th fashion, we have an unlucky story that will make all the bad beats you’ve suffered seem soft in comparison.

Aces Versus Aces

On Day 2 of the 2014 Big One for One Drop, still shy of the money, Drinan found what seemed like to him a golden opportunity to win a massive pot, potentially giving him the momentum to reach the final table. He picked up {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} in the big blind and was facing a raise to 225,000 from Cary Katz. The 2020 WSOP bracelet winner wasn’t about to slow play his aces out of position, so he three-bet to 580,000.

Here’s how it played out on ESPN:

[embedded content]

Drinan’s eyes then probably got real big as he watched Katz re-raise to 2 million, although we can’t be sure because he was wearing sunglasses. Moments later, Drinan moved all-in for 4,970,000 and, to his liking, was snap-called. But then he had a bit of disappointment when he found out his opponent also held {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}.

“Can we just chop?” Katz jokingly asked.

The hand seemed destined to be a chopped pot, but was it? Scott Seiver, who was seated at the table may have cursed one of the players before the flop was dealt.

“I’m not saying this is going to happen, but this is how I busted from the $10k last week,” Seiver shared.

The flop came out {2-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{5-Hearts}, eliminating any chance of Drinan winning the hand outright. But it did give Katz, the PokerGO founder, a glimmer of hope that he could score a memorable bad beat. When the {4-Hearts} landed on the turn, Drinan began to worry, but he was still 80% to chop the pot.

And then arguably the cruelest way to ever lose $1 million, Drinan watched the {2-Hearts} flip over on the river, giving Katz a winning flush. Norman Chad, ESPN’s commentator for the event, summed it up quite well following the cruel hand.

“A $1 million buy-in wiped out in aces versus aces,” Chad said.

Katz would go on to min-cash, taking eighth place for $1,306,607, and was the first out at the eventual final table on Day 3. Dan Colman took down the bracelet for $15,306,668.

So no matter your bad poker luck this Friday the 13th, just remember it probably pales in comparison to this classic hand.

Steve Wilkie Suffers Yet Another Bad Beat

Steve Wilkie
Steve Wilkie

At the beginning of July, Steve Wilkie suffered a bad beat to bubble the Wynn $1,650 Myster Bounty event. This weekend, Wilkie is in Colorado for the MSPT $360 Regional Event at Bally’s Black Hawk, but his bad luck continued on Day 1c of the tournament.

The hand took place in Level 5 (300/500/500) when action saw a single-raised pot go multiple ways to a flop of {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. A player in early position bet 1,600 and received a call from MSPT Grand Falls champ Chad Bjorkman in the hijack. Wilkie then raised to 10,000 in the cutoff and received a call only from Bjorkman.

The turn came {4-Hearts} and Bjorkman checked. Wilkie announced he was all in for Bjorkman’s remaining stack of around 10,000 more, and Bjorkman called.

Chad Bjorkman: {10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}
Steve Wilkie: {6-Clubs}{5-Spades}

Bjorkman’s tens were left with seven outs to improve and double, and one of those seven came on the river {j-Clubs}.

“YES!” yelled Bjorkman after completing the straight, standing up with a violent fist pump that sent his chair flying onto its back behind him. The pot was then sent his way and he collected his chips.

Dimitrov Takes Lead with Quads

Dimitrov quads

In the 2021 GGPoker WSOP Online Bracelet series it was Event #2: $1,111 Caesars Cares Charity Event in Level 15 (1,250/2,500/300) when Aleks “JustaMortal” Dimitrov opened for 4,000 from the cutoff. Diego “TheProjector” Ventura then three-bet to 12,580 and Dimitrov called.

Dimitrov check-raised the {8-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Spades} flop from 9,953 to 30,000 and Ventura called. Ventura then called a bet of 27,048 on the turn before Dimitrov checked the {a-Diamonds} river.

Ventura jammed for 135,121 and Dimitrov called off for 80,619. Ventura had a hand that wins most of the time with {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} for a full house but Dimitrov had the goods as he flopped quads with {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} to win the biggest pot of the tournament up to that point.

Fox Eliminated with a Full House

Fox full boat

In the same tournament, it was Level 34 (40,000/80,000/10,000) when Roman Hrabec opened for 160,000 from middle position. Elio Fox three-bet jammed for 1,569,140 from the small blind before Ilya “Dezauzer” Yakunin four-bet shoved for 3,651,486 from the big blind. Hrabec got out of the way and the players showed their hands.

Elio Fox: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Ilya “Dezauzer” Yakunin: {a-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Yakunin took a big lead in the flip after connecting his queen on the {q-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{k-Clubs} flop. The {8-Spades} turn gave Fox a full house but he managed to get eliminated in 14th place anyway after the {k-Hearts} river gave Yakunin a better full house.

Vieira Rivers Steel Wheel Against Nut Flush

Vieira Rivers Steel Wheel Against Nut Flush

In the 2021 GGPoker WSOP Event #3: $2,500 Limit Hold’em Championship, it was Level 20 (20,000/40,000) when Joao Vieira raised under the gun to 40,000 and Adam Owen called from the big blind. The flop came {a-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Spades} and Owen check-called for 20,000. Oven check-raised from 40,000 to 80,000 on the {4-Spades} turn, and Vieira called to the {a-Spades} river. Owen check-called for 40,000.

Joao Vieira: {k-Hearts}{2-Spades}
Adam Owen: {k-Spades}{8-Spades}

Board: {a-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades}{a-Spades}

Owen rivered the big flush, but Vieira rivered the steel wheel to take down a huge pot.

Lady Love on the River

Green vs ernest2206

In the 2021 GGPoker WSOP Event #5: $315 Bounty NLH Deepstack it was Level 6 (200/400/50) when Brian Green raised to 1,200 from the cutoff and “ernest2206” three-bet shoved for 70,039 from the small blind. The big blind snap-folded and Green quickly made the call with the bigger stack.

“ernest2206”: {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}
Brian Green: {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{a-Hearts}{j-Spades}{q-Hearts} for “ernest2206” to flop trips but for Green to river a full house to score the big pot and bounty to get to the top of the chip counts.
